Blink Budget is provided by Lifebuddy ("Lifebuddy", "we", "us"). When you use our services, you're trusting us with your information. We understand this is a big responsibility and work hard to protect your information and put you in control.
By accessing or using the Services, you agree to this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service. If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy, you can contact us.
Blink Budget does not require you to sign up or sign in. When you first launch the app, an anonymous user identifier (UID) is created for you automatically. While you remain signed out, we use it only to authenticate requests to our services and to protect our servers from abuse; if you sign in, the same identifier is also used as described in the next section. As long as you use the app without signing in, we do not collect your email address, name, nickname, phone number, physical address, or government identification, and we have no way to identify you personally from this identifier.
You can optionally sign in with your Apple or Google account to back up your budget records. When you sign in, we receive the account identifier and, depending on the provider and your choices, the name and email address associated with your Apple or Google account. We use this information to authenticate you and to associate your backup with your account. Your user identifier (UID) is also shared with RevenueCat, our subscription management service, so that an active subscription can follow your account when you change devices. Signing in is never required to use the app; every feature except server backup works without an account.
Blink Budget is a budgeting app. The records you create — the text you type to record a transaction, and the resulting structured data such as amount, category, date, and memo — are stored on your device. If you use the app without signing in, they stay on your device only and we do not store them on our servers. If you sign in, a copy of your budget records — your transactions, your category settings, and the accounts (such as cash or card) you record against — is automatically backed up to our servers so that you can restore them when you reinstall the app or move to a new device. The backup is used solely to provide this backup-and-restore feature, and you can delete it at any time by deleting your account inside the app. The text you enter is transmitted to our servers for natural-language parsing as described below, but it is not saved as part of parsing.
When you enter a transaction as free text — either by typing it or by speaking it, as described under Voice input below — that text is sent to our servers together with your anonymous identifier and your active category names, where it is processed with the help of a third-party AI inference provider in order to convert it into a structured transaction record. The text is used solely to provide this feature and is discarded once the request has been answered; it is not written to our database. We do not use your entries to train AI models, and we do not permit our providers to do so.
You can record a transaction by holding the microphone button and speaking. Your speech is transcribed into text by the speech recognition built into your device's operating system. Depending on your device, language, and settings, that system may perform the recognition on the device itself or send the audio to Apple for processing; this step is handled by Apple under Apple's own privacy policy. We never receive the audio, and neither we nor the app stores a recording of your voice. Only the resulting text reaches us, and we handle it exactly as we handle text you type, as described above. The microphone is active only while you are holding the button.
The app contains no advertising and no advertising SDKs, and we do not use any advertising identifier. To verify that requests come from a genuine, unmodified copy of the app, Firebase App Check uses a device-level attestation token issued by your device's operating system. That token is used only to protect our servers from abuse, is not linked to your identity, and is never used for advertising, tracking, or profiling. We do not operate a crash-reporting service, and we do not build profiles of individual users. Usage analytics are described in the next section.
To understand how the app is used and where it should be improved, we collect usage analytics with Firebase Analytics (Google). We record which screens you open and which features you use — for example that a transaction was saved and whether it was typed or spoken, that parsing failed, that the subscription screen was shown, that a purchase or sign-in completed, that onboarding was finished, that the display currency was changed, how you answered the notification permission request, and that a notification was opened. Your budget data is never sent with these events: amounts, memos, the text you enter, and your category names are not included. Alongside these events, Firebase Analytics automatically logs certain standard events and technical information: app lifecycle events such as the app being opened or updated; for subscriptions purchased through the App Store or Google Play, purchase details such as the product identifier, price, and currency of the subscription (never your payment details); and device information such as an app instance identifier generated by the SDK, your device model, operating system version, app version, language, and an approximate region derived from your IP address. That identifier is separate from your account identifier, and we do not link analytics data to your account or to your budget records, even when you are signed in. No advertising identifier is used, and analytics data is never used for advertising or to track you across other companies' apps or websites. You can turn usage analytics off at any time with the "Share usage statistics" switch in the app's Settings; the change takes effect immediately on your device.
We rely on a small number of third-party services to operate Blink Budget. Each of them receives only the data needed to perform its function:
When absolutely necessary, we use third-party services and hosting partners who follow industry-standard data protection practices, and we take essential security measures when sending and receiving data from them.
We use data to build better services. Your information will only be used for the purposes described below:
We use your information to deliver our services — parsing the entries you type into structured transaction records and returning them to your device; and, if you sign in, authenticating you, storing the server backup of your budget records and restoring it to your device, and linking your subscription status to your account.
We use your information to ensure our services are working as intended, such as tracking outages or troubleshooting issues that you report to us, and we use the usage analytics described above to see which features are used and where the app should be improved.
We collect email addresses from those who communicate with us via email. We use this information to interact with you directly, for example to respond to your support requests.
We use information to help improve the safety and reliability of our services. This includes detecting, preventing, and responding to fraud, abuse, security risks, and technical issues that could harm Blink Budget, our users, or the public.
We'll ask for your consent before using your information for a purpose that isn't covered in this Privacy Policy.
You retain all rights to your data. Blink Budget will never sell your personal data to a third party, and we will never share your data with third parties beyond the services listed above without your permission. You are welcome to contact us at any time to ask how your personal information is being processed, where, and for what purpose.
All data transmitted between the app and our servers is protected with SSL/TLS encryption. We work hard to protect you and Blink Budget from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction of the information we hold.
Your budget records live on your device and remain there until you delete them or remove the app. If you use the app without signing in, we do not keep a server-side copy. If you sign in, your server backup is kept for as long as your account exists and is deleted when you delete your account inside the app. The text you send for parsing is processed in memory and discarded once the response is returned. Records that we are legally required to keep, such as subscription and transaction receipts held by our payment partners, may be retained for as long as the applicable law requires.
This service is not intended for children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete the information as soon as possible.
You can delete any individual record inside the app at any time. If you use the app without signing in, your budget records are stored only on your device, so removing the app from your device deletes all of them permanently.
If you signed in, you can delete your account at any time from the app's settings. Deleting your account permanently removes your server backup and your account information (including the identifier, name, and email address received from Apple or Google) from our servers; the records stored on your device are not affected. If you have questions about data associated with your identifier, you can contact us by email at any time.
If our Privacy Policy changes at some time in the future, we will not reduce your rights under this Privacy Policy without your explicit consent. We always indicate the date the latest changes were published, and if changes are significant, we'll provide a more prominent notice. By continuing to access and use Blink Budget, you are agreeing to be bound by the revised policy.
